Who ever said the bathroom was limited to bathing, shaving, and peeing didn’t experience the fun of playing with his or her partner in the small room. Bathrooms might be tiny (or not—I’ve seen some huge ones), but they are full of dozens of fun ways to have a good time with your partner. And while that may sound sexual, many are simply funny, or intimate, ways to spend time together. To prove it, here are a dozen ways to have fun in the bathroom without having sex.
12. Play Tricks on One Another
The next time your partner is in the shower, flush the toilet and make the water turn cold. Better yet, fill a squirt bottle with cold water and spray him or her!
11. Do Crosswords/Search-and-Finds
My husband and I leave brain puzzles in the bathroom for those, ahem, longer moments. When one of us starts one, we make sure to leave it unfinished—if even by only one or two clues—so the other can finish it. Sometimes we leave notes for one another in the margins.
10. Brush Your Teeth Together
This might sound mundane, but it doesn’t have to be. We make a game about not spitting on one another (although I think he tries to spit on me…) and we’ve brushed each other’s teeth simultaneously with our opposite hands before.
9. Shower Together
Make a promise to shower one another without having sex and see how far you can get. Wash one another’s hair or give a slow massage with soap.
8. Chat
My husband works nights, so sometimes when I take a shower in the evening after our daughter goes to bed, he follows me in and sits on the toilet just to talk. Sometimes it’s the only alone moment we have together for the day.
7. Leave Each Other Steamy Messages
Write in the steam left on the mirrors after a shower if you know your loved one is coming in next. If you like, use lipstick—or post-it notes.
6. Shave Each Other
I loved the scene in Phenomenon where Kyra Sedgewick gives John Travolta a shave. The whole scene was just lovely. (I like to pretend that movie ends before he dies.) Shaving a man’s beard can be fun, but shaving a woman’s legs—whether you’re a man or a woman—can be challenging! Still, it’s worth a try.
5. Read in the Tub Together
Soak in a long, hot bubble bath and bring some romantic literature to read aloud. Be sure to light some candles for an even more romantic effect.
4. Paint Each Other’s Bodies
This can be a lot of fun, with whatever you use—body paint, food toppings, or for the more adventurous, liquid latex. Painting in el baño makes it a lot easier for cleanup.
3. Play with Toys
Rather than the, ahem, toys in your bedroom, bring out your kids’ boats and duckies and see how goofy you can get. If you don’t have kids, go out and buy some without any shame! (Okay, if you must, you can claim it’s for a young relative.)
2. Brush Each Other’s Hair
This can be one of the most sensual activities you’ll ever do with your partner—as well as the most relaxing.
1. Make Out in the Dark
Close the door, turn out the lights, and kiss like you’re back in the seventh grade, sneaking around while people are in another room. (This works especially well if you have a child napping in your bed and nowhere else to go!)
